The role,

A leading costs consultancy is seeking an experienced Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer to join its claimant receiving party team, handling personal injury and clinical negligence matters ranging from fast track claims to complex high-value litigation. You will own your caseload, recover costs strategically across provisional assessment, detailed assessment and negotiated settlements, and advise clients in commercially realistic terms.

What you'll
be doing.

Preparing bills of costs, electronic bills, costs schedules and N260 statements across personal injury and clinical negligence matters. Drafting costs budgets, budget revisions and budget discussion reports (Precedent H and Precedent R), and advising on costs management. Preparing points of reply and replies to points of dispute, and pursuing recovery through provisional and detailed assessment. Reviewing fee earner files to identify recoverable items including disbursements, counsel's fees, ATE premiums and success fees. Working within the fixed recoverable costs regime and advising on CPR, Costs Practice Directions, QOCS and relevant case law. Advising clients realistically on recovery, proportionality and strategy. Running your own caseload, maintaining clear records, keeping solicitor clients informed and supporting junior colleagues.

Solid experience in claimant legal costs with a strong track record in personal injury, clinical negligence or both. Confidence drafting bills of costs and associated documentation. Good working knowledge of CPR, costs procedure, detailed assessment and costs budgeting. Clear grasp of the fixed recoverable costs regime. Experience negotiating and settling costs. Sharp eye for detail with strong organisational skills. Clear writing and straightforward client manner. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal costs software. Desirable: experience with higher value or complex clinical negligence litigation, familiarity with electronic billing platforms, advocacy experience at provisional or detailed assessment, Costs Lawyer qualification or clear progress towards it.
